What happened in Thailand seems likely to repeat itself in Argentina. Marc Márquez led the first free practice session this morning at Termas de Río Hondo, quickly showing his speed.

Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) was the first session leader, ahead of Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3). The two remained as the early pace-setters in a session that was not very representative, as the track conditions were expected to be at their worst throughout the weekend.

Álex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha) moved up to third, with Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) in fourth after ten minutes. Surprisingly, at this stage, no Ducati was among the top eight.

With 28 minutes to go, Bezzecchi finally surpassed Zarco to take the lead. However, shortly after, Álex Márquez (BK8 Gresini/Ducati) went even faster. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM) and Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) were also among the top five at that stage.

A few moments later, Marc Márquez (Ducati) set the fastest time, ahead of his brother Álex. A «déjà vu» of what happened two weeks ago in Buriram. Zarco had improved, moving up to third before reclaiming first place with 20 minutes left. Entering the final ten minutes, Bezzecchi climbed to second.

With seven minutes remaining, Marc Márquez returned to the top of the timesheets. No one was able to dethrone him until the end, although Zarco improved to finish second, just 0.026 seconds behind. Álex Márquez secured third place, with Bezzecchi in fourth and Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) completing the top five.

Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) had a quiet session, finishing only 16th, more than 1.3 seconds behind Marc Márquez. Despite the unusual track conditions, there are certainly some concerns for the #63.
