Marc Márquez will ride for Gresini in MotoGP in 2024 but, despite being a six-time champion in the premier class, he will have this year’s Ducati Desmosedici GP23 instead of the updated version for the upcoming season.

This scenario might seem illogical given the potential and status of the rider – even if throughout the last season, the previous year’s bikes didn’t show much performance difference from the current ones.

Gigi Dall’Igna, general manager of Ducati Corse, clarified to AS newspaper the reason why Márquez won’t have the GP24: ‘There’s no possibility to carry out this idea because everything happened too late. It was pointless to consider something like that’.

It’s worth noting that the Spaniard only decided to leave Repsol Honda and join Gresini in October – a late and unexpected move in the rider market.
In the same interview, Dall’Igna emphasized: ‘It should be considered that Marc doesn’t have a contract with Ducati. He has a contract with Gresini, and we are not involved in these kinds of considerations. But from what I see, Marc is one of the most important riders in the history of world motorcycling. End of story’.
